Virginia “Ginni” May
Visiting Executive
Virginia “Ginni” May joined the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office team as Visiting Executive in August 2024. Her areas of focus include Credit for Prior Learning, Apprenticeship, Baccalaureate Degree Programs, and Transfer in support of Vision 2030. Ginni’s experience in California education to ensure equitable educational opportunities for students has both depth and breadth. She served as President of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC), completing eight years on the ASCCC Executive Committee. Her faculty background includes more than 25 years as a professor of mathematics and statistics at Sacramento City College in the Los Rios Community College District. She engaged in leadership at the college, district, and state levels in the areas of governance, curriculum, and policy.
Most recently, Ginni led common course numbering and transfer alignment efforts for the ASCCC. In addition, she served as Interim Vice President of the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) following prior service as an ACCJC Commissioner 2009-2015, participating on a dozen comprehensive peer review and follow-up teams since 2007, and engaging in writing for both the 2014 and the 2024 Accreditation Standards. Ginni attended the San Jose Evergreen community colleges, California State University Sacramento, and University of California Davis and now holds a B.A. and M.A. in mathematics.
